The Statement of Purpose (SoP) is your opportunity to present your own experiences, ideas and motivations in your own voice. It is the one component in the application that you have full control over. Review your SoP with upmost care for factual correctness. You are the owner of this essay and responsible for its content.

While we know AI tools have become readily accessible, overuse of AI, specifically large language models such as ChatGPT and similar generative AI systems will dilute your unique perspective and voice.

A useful guideline is to ask yourself whether it would be appropriate for an advisor to perform the same task. Asking someone to review your essay for grammar, spelling, or clarity is generally acceptable. Asking that same person write a draft of an SoP for you to tweak and then submit for you is not.

Reviewers are experienced in identifying essays that have been substantially generated by AI and will take this into account when evaluating your application.
