The Big Talk


The following buses are available especially for visitors of the Student Open Day:

Arrival:    8:15: from Heiligenstadt (U4 station)    |     9:15: from Heiligenstadt (U4 station)
Departure:    17:00: to Heiligenstadt (U4 station)    |    18:00: to Heiligenstadt (U4 station)

The bus ride takes about 25 mins.

Alternatively, you can use the regular IST Shuttle Bus (#142) or the public bus 400, which depart regularly from Heiligenstadt Wien (U4/S-Bahn station). A schedule is available here. You can use the Wienerlinien (Vienna Public Transport) website to plan your journey.

The Big Talk

Professor David Hu, a two-time Ig Nobel laureate (Georgia Institute of Technology) will present his work on “A wombat’s cube-shaped poo and other mysteries of animal movement”.

Dr. David Hu is a mechanical engineer who studies the mysteries of animal movement. His team has discovered how dogs shake dry, how insects walk on water, and how eyelashes protect the eyes from drying. His work has won numerous awards and accolades, including the 2015 AND the 2019 Ig Nobel Physics prize.

He is the author of the book “How to Walk on Water and Climb Up Walls: Animal Motion and the Robots of the Future”, published by Princeton University Press.
